The baby is 6 weeks old!
*1/4 inch = size of a pea
*Continued development of major organ systems (cardiovascular and central nervous)
*Heart is the size of pencil lead
*Heart is outside the chest
*Primitive versions of major organs are forming: kidneys, intestines, pancreas, liver
*Limb buds for arms and legs begin to form
*Primitive eyes begin to form
*Heartbeat can now be seen by a transvaginal ultrasound as a “flicker”
MILESTONES: Heart takes its first beats and the baby has tripled in size!
In other news…
I started freaking out yesterday because all our neighbors smoke and it comes into our apartment and smells all the time. When I googled it (bad idea), it said second hand smoke has the same effects on the baby as if I were smoking myself! Steve calmed me down and we closed the vents in our ceiling where the smell comes from and got out our air purifier. Plus, the effect of second hand smoke is more for if I’m living with the smoker. Anyway, we’ll be out of here at the end of July.
This period, week 5 to 10, is when the baby is most susceptible to toxins so we’re just being extra careful… I even stopped using my Proactiv face care products because the reviews of its use during pregnancy are mixed – half say it’s bad. That’s probably extreme, but better safe than sorry
I read that pregnant women get crazy dreams – like I should keep a notebook by my bed to record them. So far, all I can tell is that I have dreams constantly! All night it just goes from one to the next and I might wake up briefly and have a passing thought about the dream, but in the morning I can’t remember any of them. Except for one last night. It was secret garden-ish, if you’ve seen the movie. Steve hasn’t, so he just thinks I’m crazy.
Packages! The other day we got surprised with gifts in the mail, thanks everyone!!
1) “Tiny Tales” from our friend, Kristin. They’re little cards to record the date and fun milestones – like first craving, kicks, thoughts, discoveries, purchases, etc. I’ve already filled out a few!
2) This is called a “dreamsie” and it’s from my mom. It’s white and really soft – and so cute!
3) A Precious Moments from Aunt Colleen! How sweet and how cute!!
4) I just wanted to include this one to show you how awesome Steve is. I told him I needed chocolate and he set all of this out in front of me. Future dads-to-be, Steve is setting the bar pretty high, sorry
I think that’s it for now.. gotta run, Steve made breakfast and then we’re going for a walk
PS — This blog averages 100 hits a day (with nearly 300 the first day). I realize nearly half are probably my mom, haha, but thanks for reading everyone!!
