Week 10!

Thank goodness only 2 more weeks until this fatigue and nausea supposedly ends!! They weren’t lying when they said this past week would be the worst… yuck.

THE BABY!
week 10*An inch long, weighing 5 grams (1/6 of an ounce)
*In the coming weeks, the baby will grow rapidly, doubling in size again
*Limbs are now able to flex
*If it’s a boy, he’s now producing testosterone
*Starts swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm this week
*Now less susceptible to toxins
*Vital organs including kidneys, intestines, brain and liver now in place and starting to function
*Peach fuzz hair starting to grow on skin
*I have a few different sources and they all use a different size comparison this week: a kiwi fruit, a garden beetle and a kumquat. So I found this picture to help:

week 10 sizeI can’t believe it’s that big already! I feel like it was just the size of pencil lead.…

THE MOM:
*Uterus the size of a grapefruit/softball
*Shape change: “less waist, more chest“
*Some women are ready for maternity clothes already!! But I’m glad to hear that because, while I’m not quite ready, my clothes don’t fit that well and it’s really frustrating. My shirts are tighter so I end up wearing my (not cute) bigger t-shirts and my pants make my stomach hurt. Hmm.. can I wear sweatpants to work??? Time to buy one of those BellaBands that let’s me wear my jeans unbuttoned!!!
*Nausea. Yes! Still no throwing up, but ughhhhh.
*Mood swings. Still don’t really have any… doing pretty well on that side of things (lucky Steve :) )

Here’s a great example of how it goes… last night after work I was STARVING. Steve picked me up and we stopped at Wendy’s for my favorite, chicken nuggets and a coke. When we got home, I ate THREE of the ten chicken nuggets before I felt completely nauseous, couldn’t move and certainly couldn’t eat. Then I about started crying because I was soooo hungry and reallllly wanted those chicken nuggets, but for some reason that baby just didn’t want me to eat. Ahhhhhhhh. Two more weeks before it all gets better.…. I can hardly wait. I want to EAT.

Other symptoms.. I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned this one yet, but my face is breaking out like I’m 13 years old again! Let me tell you, along with my thickening waist, it’s pretty hot.

My next doctor appointment is Tuesday, June 2nd at 11am. I really hope they have us listen to the heartbeat!!!

Ok.. a post coming soon about “I’m happy your pregnancy is making you fat.”

  • Hey,
My sister-out-law suffered from acne when she was a teen, then it cleared up for about 15 years… and the moment she got pregnant it all came back. Her GORGEOUS son was born 6 months ago and the spots (do you guys say spots? I’m from England :P ) are long gone. Don’t know if it’s the same for all pregnancy-related breakouts, but try not to worry; Im sure it’ll go.
    Unsolicited advice over :)

This seems to be going so fast, Emily! I guess — 2.5 months — soon you will definitely need that belly band! How exciting! Hope you feel better soon and are able to eat! Thanks for the updates. I look forward to them!
