The Baby:

*Skeleton changing from soft cartilage to hard bone
*Umbilical cord growing thicker and stronger
*Weighs 5 ounces and is 5 inches in length = size of a turnip!
*About as wide as your palm.. the size of a bar of soap
*Now weighs more than the placenta!
*Sweat glands starting to develop
*Developed fat deposits under the skin that will account for 2 – 6% of her total weight at birth
*Sense of hearing is progressing
*In the next few weeks the baby’s eyes will begin to move side to side
The Mom:

*Eyes becoming drier? No.
*May start to be unsteady on my feet – off balance. I noticed I’ve been tripping more often, but figured I’m just clumsy. My small baby bump can’t possibly be putting me off balance already!
*Beware of trauma to the belly area. Wear seatbelt underneath the belly. < I do this now anyway because the belt hurts my belly!
*Placenta is now fully functional, delivering nutrients (and making me lose weight) and getting rid of waste
*I look pregnant and have that “glow” (which I don’t see at all, but thanks for the compliments!)
*Yep, I took 2 pictures because I thought it was neat to see the bump under the clothes.
I put in my 2 week notice at work yesterday. My last day is July 22… then I’m moving home with Steve that weekend. Steve will be coming back to Ames to finish out his work schedule and will finally get back to Rockford in mid-August. Meanwhile, I’ll be on the beach in Florida with my mom from July 28-August 1. Just booked the flight today!
My last hoorah before the baby.…!! and before I start work again in Rockford.
18 days until the ultrasound!!!

awww — you continue to look great, Emily!

Good luck with your move to Rockford. I have the PERFECT recipe for weight gain…go to Austria and eat meat and bread for every meal. There is a scale in the bathroom closet at the apartment where I’m staying but I’m afraid to take it out…I don’t want to know!
Can’t believe I’ve been gone for 2 weeks already!

Haha, nice. I’ve been reading your blog – sounds like some great experiences!! You’re busy over there! I’ll work on the eating from here, sadly – would be nice to be in Austria!
