Third trimester comes early?

I knew that the 2nd trimester was the pregnancy “honeymoon period” and that the 3rd trimester would be more like the first.

What I didn’t know is that the 3rd trimester symptoms come early?!?! I’m still about 2.5 weeks away from reaching the 3rd trimester, but I’ve been feeling the symptoms like I’m back in the first trimester again for the last week or so.

Is it just me?! I know at least one other person feels the same… I talked about it with Kristine Brite on twitter – she is about 26 weeks along (check out her blog: Instructions Not Included).

Once again, I’m tired all the time (it’s currently 8pm, is it ok if I go to bed?), I have terrible heartburn nearly every night, it’s harder to breathe.. I mean, sometimes I’m short on breath like my belly is in the way. I have to pee even when I don’t have to pee (I know that didn’t make sense, but it’s true). And it’s difficult to be comfortable in bed – with how hard it has became to even roll over.

I should do my yoga DVD, but… I’m too tired.

And a recent thought driving me nuts??! The idea of having to soon buy a maternity winter coat. Gross.

Goodnight ;)

  • The shortness of breath is kind of scary. I hate it. I love the cartoon you used, so true!

PS… I am a mom to four, I feel what you are going through (love that cartoon) but it is sooo worth it:)

Hey Emily! So yesterday I was checking FB and saw Sheena’s announcement, another of my friends announced their baby is a girl, and I sent an e-mail to one of my friends in DM who is expecting in October. It kinda freaks me out a bit just that so many of my friends are having babies. I admire you for being so courageous and brave…and enjoy that you share your experiences. Hope things are going well in Rockford and.…a winter coat.…seriously? I can’t even believe it’s September already, let alone considering a winter coat. But it’s true.…. All the best!

  • My second trimester was more like the third trimester you mention, during my first pregnancy. My third trimester was absolutely lovely, I occasionally experienced shortness of breath when I severely overexerted myself in the hot summer heat, but not very often, not nearly as much as I did in my 2nd trimester. I am a Kundalini yogi, and I practiced yoga throughout my whole pregnancy, but I only did as much as I could… my eating habits and lifestyle changed dramatically each trimester, improving exponentially… so I was to the point where I was doing prenatal Kundalini Yoga(which was a complete match with what I did during the labor/birth) at least twice a week, as well as regular Kundalini Yoga classes almost everyday of the week, sometimes 2 or 3 times in a day, and a lot of meditation and mantras… I didn’t want my 3rd trimester to be over.

This time, my second pregnancy, I had a shorter period of a pretty overwhelming 1st trimester, an early 2nd trimester, which was pretty great, really, I changed my diet a lot, because I could stomach what I really wanted, and got into my yoga and everything else that would be normal for me to do, outside of an overwhelming 1st trimester… I had occassional indigestion and shortness of breath. This 3rd trimester has also seemed to come early, and I’ve been able to improve my eating even more, and be more physically active and meditative… I don’t have any negative symptoms…not even the few things I had during my last pregnancy in the 3rd trimester.

Diet, physical activity, and relaxation/stress release and creative expression have really seemed to improve my condition anytime I settle into focus on these sections of my life more. I definitely recommend trying to find ways to be more creative, and little by little your pregnancy symptoms may lessen or go away. Either way, it will prepare you for your upcoming birth experience. I’m excited!
