Baby: Pregnancy Week 27

As of today… 190 days (68.2%) through pregnancy. 90 days (~13 wk) until our due date!! And only ONE WEEK until the third trimester, yikes!

The Baby:

week 27*Fun fact: babies have more taste buds at birth than they will later in life. They can tell the difference between their mother’s milk and someone else’s.
*His eyes are beginning to open and his retinas are forming
*He’s about 14.5 inches long, weighing about 2 pounds
*Size of a small pot roast (hmm.. interesting thought.)
*Keenly aware of sound and may move to the rhythm of music… I haven’t noticed this yet, but can’t wait! How fun!
*Practicing breathing and may even cry
*Survival rate = 85%. Of those that survive, 40% have serious medical complications.

The Mom:

week 27 me*My amniotic fluid is being reduced by half, which will allow me to see certain body parts – elbows and knees poking out, etc. (Haven’t seen them yet, but can’t wait!)
*Increased heart rate – makes me feel flush and look winded with less exertion
*Still stretch mark-free!
*Leg cramps: occasionally, at night if I’m not careful with stretching
*Current symptoms: back pain, sore feet, fatigue
*Current tasks: review signs of preterm labor and work on my birth plan
*Kicking: it seems he’s pretty much awake (and kicking) all day & he sleeps all night when I do. He can sense motion so he knows when I’m up. He has started kicking my rib area… can’t believe he’s already up that high – I have 3 months left! Where’s he going to go?!

I took a picture of a front/side view… the belly button, while almost gone, is still not an outie!

week 27 front

Friday was awful. My back hurt (right side, in the middle) all day – I kept trying to shove my fist into it while at work. I must have allergies (because I refuse to think I’m getting sick) because I keep sneezing, have a runny nose, and generally feel like someone punched me in the face. Plus, I was just generally annoyed at my maternity jeans/clothes.

MUST maternity jeans SAG all over?! They just don’t stay up. I have no idea what I’ll do when it gets colder out. Maternity tops? No problem. Maternity pants? UGH.

But things got better… DH (= “dear husband”) and I finished registering at Target and found some awesome non-maternity tops that I love (helllllo RETAIL THERAPY!) :) Made some delicious home-made white pizza and spent the evening together. Plus, I won some great baby gifts and am starting a new online project – coming soon!!!

Pizza: ricotta cheese, feta cheese (pasteurized, don’t worry), chicken and garlic. YUMM. This pic was taken right before it went in the oven..

  • When you register, make sure you keep the crazy return policies in mind. By the time the wee one is born, a lot of stuff may already be unreturnable, which sucks if you have a 8lb12oz baby and people bought lots of newborn stuff! Lol
And you have a lovely bump.

Awww…just found your blog and how very very sweet it is! I am a mommy of two little ones who are my whole world (hubby too)! I am here to say, that though not all moms like being pregnant I TOTALLY loved it ;) Isn’t it the greatest just knowing your little baby is in there and to follow along with all the miracles of development along the way. What a blessing :) I hope you enjoy every minute of it! By the way– I should mention that our family is really trying hard to get rid of nasty and unhealthy chemical based products as their is so much junk that goes into products (even baby products!) and one thing I love is the all natural Topricin pain cream which may help you deal with the pregnancy aches? I just love it and they even have Topricinkids which is designed for our little ones. We really like it and just thought I would throw that out there for you. I hope you continue feeling well! I am going to go find ya now on twitter :)
