Pregnancy Week 28: Third Trimester!

Ahhhh, it’s the third trimester?! Where has all the time gone?! Everyone says “congratulations,” but.… doesn’t 3rd trimester suck the most? I’m envisioning falling asleep at my work desk, waddling like a penguin, being unable to tie my shoes (or shave my legs… poor DH!), peeing when I laugh, and being one cranky you know what.

Anyyyywayy… I have 12 weeks (84 days) left and am 70.4% through this.

The Baby:
week 28 baby*Lanugo hair has almost disappeared
*Body is 2 – 3% body fat
*He’s blinking, complete with eyelashes
*He recognizes my voice (and DH’s!)
*He has doubled in weight in the past month, now the size of a bag of flour
*Nearly 15 inches long & weighing in around 2.5 lb
*Milestone: he’s capable of breathing air! Although it’d still be difficult for him if he were out of the womb…
*His main job now: finishing touches on major organ systems
*May begin dreaming – brain scans have shown REM sleep
*Survival rate = 80%. Of those, 35% have serious complications.

The Mom:

week 28 me*Average weight gain by now is 17 – 25 pounds… I’m at 15.
*My uterus is now ~3.2 inches above my belly button
*Symptoms: same old. Fatigue is back, dun dun dunnn. I can deal with the aches, being unable to bend over, moving more slowly, being generally uncomfortabe, etc… IF I get my SLEEP.

There are 2 things Steve (DH) tries to do when I’m cranky. First, he’ll bring me food (it always makes me laugh, at the very least). Second, and a little bit more risky on his part, is telling me to take a nap.

*Kicking: oh my. I feel like he’s kicking ALL the time, but thankfully he’s letting me sleep through the night just fine (so far?) But he HAS started kicking in the ribs. It doesn’t hurt so much, but it’s uncomfortable – like pressure and makes me short on breath.

Actually, earlier today Steve and I felt a huge lump right underneath my ribcage… it was painful. And alien-like, a bit creepy. Steve pushed on it and with a slight jerk/snap, it was gone. A little baby foot???!

THIRD TRIMESTER!

week 28 third trimester

In other news…

We picked up our nursery furniture! We haven’t set it up yet because we aren’t sure on where yet. We also might be moving in ~a month, sooo… at least it’s here!

I was sick the past 2 days, home from work, sleeping all day. I feel much better today (see? I neeeeeed my sleep!) and am hoping that’s the worst I get this fall/winter, but I pessimistically doubt it.

Random: I really enjoy the shelf that my belly creates.. for my phone, my drinks, my cereal bowl.…. anything!

Next dr appt: in 3 weeks on October 21st. Then it’ll be every 2 weeks– yikes!

Alright people, my Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s (in honor of my Grandpa) is TOMORROW! And I’m just $40 short of my goal.… please click below if you can help out and donate to end this awful disease!

Oh Emily! You will be just fine these last 3 months. I bet you are getting used to the big baby belly. What keeps you entertained are those nice foot jabs and watching the entire body roll to the right or left. This is the greatest time of all! Yes — there really is a little boy in there that you and DH created. How amazing is that! You don’t have much time left at all. Enjoy your quiet alone times with DH.

You won’t pee when u laugh and you won’t fall asleep at your desk! If you do, baby will wake you up!!!! Get used to that– (baby waking u up when you think you have a moment to rest!) :) :) All in all, you are almost there and when baby boy arrives, your entire life will change for the better. You will be amazed at how you love that baby instantly. What a wonderful mother you will be! Grandmama D cannot wait to watch you and Steve in action! Love u both!

I agree with Grand-mama D! You are a trooper and together with Steve will make great parents! Thank you for suggesting the wedge! I was planning on getting a body pillow but I think a wedge is also essential :) I’m heading to Des Moines this weekend to get both as well as a new pair of jeans!

Oooo good luck with the jeans! I’ve pretty much given up on them and am sticking with leggings, yoga pants, etc. Let me know how it goes for you!
