I’ll admit, I’m a list maker. I add things I’ve already done just so I can cross them off. I bet hubby enjoys my lists too
Anyway, with a baby on the way, possibly sooner than expected, I can’t get these things off my mind and the best thing to do in that situation is write them down!! The ones in bold are priorities…
*set up crib and dresser (Sat, Nov 7)
*decorate nursery — worked on it Sun, Nov 8 (put everything away in dresser/closet)
*wash baby clothes (is Dreft really necessary??? I have no clue)
*make birth plan (see? I wrote it just to cross it off
)
*make Christmas stockings for the (new) family
*pack hospital bag
*send out thank you cards from my shower –> definitely a good bed rest activity!
*buy and paint some wooden letters that spell baby’s name for his nursery — letters are bought! and scrapbook paper (instead of paint). Just need to make them now!
*buy some fabric and make some holiday onesies — fabric bought!
*pre-register at the hospital appointment made! Wed, Nov 18th at 4pm
*find a baby book!
*pick a pediatrician - appointment to meet with one Nov. 19th, 5pm!
*research vaccines, cord clamping, cord blood donation and circumcision
that’s all I can think of right now… more to be added later, I’m sure!
Oh and this reminded me of my Baby Bucket List that has been neglected… just updated it and more things are done, whoohoo!! Still on there that we haven’t even started yet: pick a pediatrician, have a romantic weekend out, decorate the nursery, create a will, figure out meals for after pregnancy.

I don’t think Dreft is really necessary. I just bought Purex Free and Clear. We usually use Purex anyway but decided to switch to the free and clear so that we can wash our stuff and baby’s stuff with the same detergent. As long as you use a deterent that is free and clear of dyes and perfumes I think you will be fine.

Ohhh.…Emily…you are saying words in your blogs that I cannot even pretend to comprehend. What’s picorin? Baby making is hard work… I’m so proud of you for being such a good almost-mommy
(like I had any doubts…) I can’t wait to meet the little guy! I miss you!

haha, Pitocin… it’s a drug that causes uterine contractions. So if they need to induce labor or speed it up (if it’s not progressing), they normally give Pitocin. Makes contractions stronger, more painful, etc. They also give it AFTER labor to help deliver the placenta (because there are risks if the placenta stays in there too long).
Don’t worry, I had no idea what any of this stuff was before I got pregnant either!
Miss you too!!!

I agree with Shazia about Dreft. One of my friends who’s pregnant with her second said Dreft isn’t necessary; just use something without dyes, perfumes, and additives. One of my other friends, who had a 10.5 pound baby in September (gasp!) cautioned me to wait on washing all of the newborn clothes, as I may way to take some back. Can’t do that if the tags are off and they’re washed! In her case it was particularly important b/c her baby basically didn’t fit into any of the newborn clothes. Probably not such a big deal for you, but just thought I’d pass it on. Good luck with the list!

Good tips, thank you!! I’ll be sure to set aside some newborn clothes, that’s a good idea.

Dreft is unnecessary, but you need to use something that isn’t choc full of additives. I like to reccomend rockin’ green for baby laundry. I even made a woefully distributed song about it, cuz I <3 it. You can follow @rockingreensoap on twitter if you’re curious. Its awesome, and not all baby-scented.

Dreft is not necessary but I definitely recommend something without a lot of additives. My baby has REALLY sensitive skin and the only thing that doesn’t cause a rash is Rockin Green Soap. It’s been a lifesaver!

Dreft is not only unnecessary but in my opinion undesirable. It was my little one’s reaction to this detergent that sent me on a quest to live as green and chemical free as possible.
It broke her out so badly and when she was in the hospital with pneumonia I truly believe that she caught MRSA through the open rash.
You may have to try more than one product before you find one that doesn’t irritate. Look for freebies and samples before you invest a lot of money in big boxes or bottles.
Here’s a giveaway with pretty good odds that you might want to enter to see if their products work…if not…move on to the next suggestion. I’m pretty passionate about chemical free baby products and nope.…I don’t sell them. My family has just suffered for not using them from the very start.
Best wishes. Claire

I used Dreft religiously for the first few months. But I actually have a friend who is allergic to everything and she used Gain & loved it. I made the switch and will continue to use that when our second bundle arrives. It just made life easier!
