Welcome to Veronique Maternity! This is an upscale maternity boutique located in New York City and is owned by Lori Solomon, an expert in maternity fashion and dressing for style and comfort during pregnancy. Finding cute maternity clothes was one of the hardest parts of my pregnancy. I never did settle on any jeans and either got stuck in leggings or pre-preggo jeans with my BellaBand (which became not so comfy in the later weeks)! I also bought a lot of non-maternity tops in a larger size, which sometimes worked out, but sometimes hung loose in other areas in order to fit my massive belly. SO, when I was contacted by Veronique, I was really excited to try out one of their tops! AND lucky for you I got to interview Lori and she shares some awesome tips!
When do you suggest pregnant women start shopping for maternity clothes? Is it a bad idea to start too early?
Lori: The best time to start shopping for maternity clothing is when your own clothing becomes uncomfortable. It is not worth the struggle to try and make your pants fit when you can embrace the maternity bottoms that are out there to offer. Whether you are a size 2 or a size 12 there are many flattering comfortable maternity bottoms to wear through out your pregnancy so don’t be afraid to embrace maternity clothing.
What are the staple items you MUST have in a maternity wardrobe?
Lori: Staple items for fall/winter are a great pair of jeans, cords, black pants, an open cardigan, a black cashmere dress, one print top and layered tees. For a spring maternity wardrobe, great staple items include capri pants, white jeans, cotton printed dresses, light weight sweaters and long cotton tunics.
Are maternity bras and underwear necessary?
Lori: Maternity bras and underwear are not necessary. Just go to your favorite lingerie store and see a fit specialist who can help you size up where need be.
What are the best styles or patterns to wear when pregnant to look cute and not huge?
Lori: The best items to wear when pregnant are fitted silhouettes. The more you show off your bump the better off you will feel. It shows that you are pregnant and not over weight. Also, one color from head to toe always is a sophisticated flattering look. Try to dress as you would if you were not pregnant. If a trend doesn’t work on you when you are not pregnant then chances are you should also stay away from it when pregnant.
A bit about their boutique: “Veronique Maternity is universally credited with introducing the body-conscious and panel-free styles so prevalent today — and the celebrated European maternity aesthetic in general — to stylish New Yorkers, chic socialites and the world’s biggest celebrities. Veronique is the leading upscale maternity boutique in New York. The boutique’s multi-label approach has led New York Magazine to award Veronique its top honor for Maternity Clothes in its famous ‘Best of New York’ issue, with Lori [owner] deemed a “world class expert” on pregnancy fashion.”
I was sent the Michael Stars Long-Sleeve Hoodie in chambord (wine). It’s wonderful! I was pretty excited to have it arrive while I was still preggo, but it’s going to be an awesome shirt to wear post-pregnancy too. It’s a ribbed cotton so it fits your shape. I wore it right away — to my husband’s family Christmas. I am running low on pant options so I wore it under a black dress:
It’s a one-size-fits-all kind of shirt and sometimes I have problems with those because I’m petite. But I suppose when you’re pregnant, no one is petite, haha, because this shirt fit perfectly! As I said, it’s ribbed cotton so it stretches with you. One major problem I’ve had with other maternity shirts near the end is that they no longer cover my lower belly!! That was absolutely not a problem with this shirt, it was great. I love the color and quality of it and am excited to be able to use it post-pregnancy as well!
Check out some of their other cute items:
You can buy the same shirt I got for $62 and check out their other great stuff—some maternity items are must-haves in your closet and it’s worth it to spend the money on things that will last (especially through more than one pregnancy)! They’re currently holding their semi-annual sale so don’t miss it!
You can sign up for their newsletter to receive special offers and updates, as well as find them on twitter and facebook!

These are super cute clothes! I feel like I live in the same outfits every day. I’m sure they’ll get old by the time the next 20 weeks are finished!
By the way, I nominated you for an award on my blog, because I love reading yours so much.
