Strap To It: car seat safety strap review

The same wonderful people that make the Fit+Giggles exercise DVD also make the Strap To It infant car seat safety strap. I was surprised to find this in the mail along with the exercise DVD for review and I couldn’t wait to try it out. I was slow to take Ryan out of the house because… I didn’t know what I was doing, haha. One of the first times I took him shopping, his car seat wouldn’t fit in the cart (the bottom part, where it’s safe)!! I didn’t even know what to do!

Did you know that 21,600 kids are hurt in shopping cart accidents every year? 2 out of 3 of these accidents are falls. Did you know that when children under the age of 1 fall from a shopping cart, 92% suffer a head or neck injury. Did you know there has been a 30% increase in shopping cart accidents despite increased safety regulations?

Obviously the easiest place to put the car seat is in the top of a shopping cart, but clearly isn’t not safe! But what are you supposed to do when the cart is too small to fit your car seat in the bottom part? Or if you are planning on buying a lot of stuff and you need all that cart space? I know lots of women carry their babies in this situation and that’s a great option as well – but sometimes I like to just bring in the car seat, especially if he’s sleeping or wants to sleep (Ryan doesn’t nap well when carried).

The strap is sturdy and very easy to use. You just hook the ends to the shopping cart and put the little black ring to make sure it’s nice and tight around the car seat. When it’s time to go, you just lift up the black buckle area and the strap loosens so you can unhook it. It has a little loop on it to where you can attach a toy or pacifier! Easily stored in your purse or diaper bag! Ryan actually liked it there because he’s in the phase where he grabs at EVERYTHING in front of him so he sat there just gripping this strap until he fell asleep (still holding onto it, haha). Such a cute lil man.

I definitely think this is a must-have safety item for parents. Find it here: Strap To It for only $15.
