Ryan's attempt at crawling

I know it’s early for full-blown crawling, but Ryan is trying his hardest to slither across the floor. Or, climb over his boppy and face plant on the other side! A couple days ago we placed Ryan on his tummy, propped up on his boppy. His activity mat was in front of him and he really wanted a toy just out of his reach. We watched him push his way closer and closer… then he was no longer interested in the toy – he wanted to keep moving! He’d grunt and shriek and bury his face in the floor before each big push – the hardest part was getting his knees up on the boppy to be able to get over it. Eventually he got it! And the result was a face full of floor. Steve quickly gathered him up.

I tried it again today (putting Ryan on his tummy, I mean. Not crawling myself.) and Ryan rocked it. He did it much faster than last time and instead of face planting on the other side of the boppy, he half rolled over… well, let me just show you:

Here we go! I am SO ready to do this!

Kitty cat, you better get out of my way, I’m coming through!

Ughhhhhh

Ok, this is harder than I thought. I’m tired.

BUTCAN DO THIS! I think I can, I think I can…

yes, Yes, YES!

SUCCESS! I found a TOY!

And a few seconds later, he was all the way on the other side, lying flat on his back, playing with the butterflies over his head. Without the boppy, he kind of attempts the same thing (putting his head down, scrunching up, and trying to push), but he doesn’t really get anywhere.

My baby boy is growing up way too quickly!!!

At what age did your baby start crawling? What’d they do first – scoot on their butts? Army crawl? Hands and knees? Ryan can’t sit up on his own yet, but I think crawling may come soon?!

Ryan and Chloe seem to be almost in-sync with one another! She turned 5 months on Tuesday and she’s been scooting/creeping/crawling whatever for a little over a week now. Better start babyproofing now! ;) Whenever I set her down on her blankie she’s not in the same spot that I left her in. I’m totally not prepared for this. I thought she’d be moving a couple months from now. :( Our babes are definitely growing up quick!

Oh — that is the cutest thing ever, Emily! I love the step by step pictures and the looks on his face! I am missing him!!!

  • Too cute! My daughter is 5 1/2 months old and is showing a real interest in trying to get around too! Soon enough…

My son was a “late bloomer” I guess you could say. I can’t really remember exactly how old, but I do remember that he log rolled around the house for what seemed like forever to get to where he wanted to go. I remember thinking, “he’s going to log roll his way into kindergarten!” HA! Then he did the army crawl for awhile — we called it the chicken wing though! :)

Good luck — every stage gets better and better!! So much fun!

  • How neat! I can’t believe he’s growing so fast and getting moble.
