I’ve been pinning things on Pinterest and making a mental note of everything I need (okay… WANT) for this baby girl. Some are things I really must buy, others are things we probably won’t buy right away (or maybe at all) and I’m just wishing. But this post is, again, because I’m a nerdy list maker and it helps me keep things organized:

Ryan has this Anywhere Chair with his name on it from Pottery Barn Kids and he LOVES it… so baby girl needs one too!

Her whole bedroom will be white and pink, simple and classic. We have a white crib and an armoire and side table that I got at a garage sale that I need to paint white. So what I still need (.…want).… is a white toy chest (like the picture so I can add a pink cushion) and simple changing table…

I was thinking a very plain and simple changing table–the open kind with 3 shelves, but then I saw this one and it’s not as bulky as a dresser/table, but I LOVE that it has the hamper built in for dirty cloth diapers!

A chandelier. Know where I can find one for a good deal? They’re expensive!!! I’m hoping to find a vintage one that I can paint white and Hobby Lobby has pink chandelier shades for $5 each… Also? I need to make a pink drape like this one over the crib (anyone know how? lol):

Pregnancy: week 8

When I was pregnant with Ryan, I wrote weekly updates like clockwork with information from Baby Center. This pregnancy? This will be my first update, but I hope to keep up with them weekly! Sure, I’ll still pull info from Baby Center, but I’m using a new chart this time… I first heard about this chart from my bloggy friend Joanna at Baby Gator’s Den. It’s a pregnancy calendar from Alpha Mom and it’s just plain awesome.

A gummy bear! Awwww. This little bear has webbed fingers and toes from its little hands and feet! There are also eyelids and breathing tubes from the throat to the lungs and the little “tail” is almost gone (hopefully, eh?). Nerve cells are growing rapidly and connecting in the brain. This little bean is moving constantly, but I can’t feel it yet–too small!

I am… nauseated. No vomiting, but just sick to my stomach almost constantly. I remember saying “I NEVER WANT TO BE PREGNANT AGAIN!” when I was pregnant with Ryan.… but here I am.… pregnant again. It doesn’t seem as bad as it was before, but I can’t wait to feel normal again in about another month. I am hungry all the time, but then when I eat I seem to only be able to eat a few bites before I’m stuffed or sick. Or sometimes I’ll be starving, but can’t eat at all because I’m so nauseated. Awesome, right?

Weight gain: 2 pounds. I started at 107 and am now at 109.

I haven’t gained much, but definitely have a small belly. I don’t look pregnant to anyone else… just a little chubby! I need one of those shirts… “I’m pregnant, not fat!” I’ve been living in dresses though so I haven’t noticed tight clothes yet. With Ryan, I didn’t have a small belly until about 10 weeks? But they say you start to show earlier the second time around!

Cravings: nothing really. Salty foods, I guess.… cereal because it seems like all I can handle.
Food Aversions: depends on the moment. Nothing specific yet, just all foods in general it seems, lol.
Looking forward to: finding a midwife!

Working on meeting some different midwives next week.… really hoping I find an awesome one that I can connect with! I don’t feel rushed yet, but a prenatal appointment is a good idea at some point

Other news from the Dickey’s… I finally went out and bought a little plastic pool for Ryan (we had a blow up one and a raccoon popped it!), a sprinkler, some water toys and baby flip flops–Ryan is all set! We love spending our days in the backyard relaxing. AND I bought something for the baby… an Arms Reach Co-Sleeper. We didn’t use one with Ryan, but I’ve heard amazing things about them and had always wanted one! I found it on craigslist for cheap and barely used. Whoo! Next week we’re going camping–Ryan’s first time!!!

Wait, WHAT?!

FOR REAL?!

Yep, it’s true.

I think now that we’ve finally announced it, it’s much more real, but I’ve spent the last week in lala land. I found out last Thursday with the first test. The second 2 tests I took on Friday because I still didn’t believe it. I mean, that stupid plus sign was awfully faint!!! I thought, okay, if I squint… and hold it at the right angle… there’s a plus sign.… right? Or maybe not.… is there? When I was pregnant with Ryan, the second line was SO CLEAR. This time, I was like WHAT’S GOING ON?! So I took the second test Friday morning. Ya know, “first urine” and all, it’s supposed to help. Well it didn’t. I HATE YOU, BLUE LINES! So I went out to spend $18 on a freaking digital. It was pretty cool though to see the word “pregnant” on it. And definitely a nice keepsake picture

I kept the secret for a week. A WEEK! That’s like a year in “huge secret” land <–yea, that’s a real place. Last time, I told Steve by running out of the bathroom crying. I wanted to make it.…… better… this time lol.

So I found the super cute monster big brother shirt on etsy and had to wait for it to get here. I also ordered Steve a shirt that says “I make adorable babies” and a matching newborn onesie that says “adorable baby.”

I decided to tell him (and everyone) on Father’s Day. Perfect, right?! Well, like I said, I’ve been holding in this secret for like a freaking year… and we have a wedding on Saturday night and everyone would be wondering why I wasn’t having a drink.… and the shirt arrived in the mail today.… SO obviously I couldn’t keep the secret any longer.

Ryan told Steve:

“What is this? .….….….…. No really, what is this?”

“What.….. How? I mean.… are we getting a kitten??”

Ryan says: “Yea, dad, it’s for real!”

Then we went over to Steve’s parents’ house to tell them. Steve’s dad was worried there was something wrong because we were just showing up on a weeknight, haha. He was holding Ryan (hadn’t noticed his shirt yet) and Steve’s mom walked up and saw the back of Ryan’s shirt and yelled with excitement and starting jumping and clapping So Steve’s dad (somehow now knew?! I mean, he still hadn’t seen the shirt!) looked at me and said, “You’re pregnant?!”

Then we went to my parents’ house. My dad was already asleep, but my mom spotted the back of Ryan’s shirt and kind of started crying–then she chased after him to make sure she read the shirt right! She was really excited and happy too!

Sooooooooooo.….….… tomorrow (Friday) I’ll be 6 weeks and I’m due about February 10th. I think my date for the first day of my last period might be a little off (by a day or two) so that would push my due date to Feb 11–13. Due dates are stupid anyway, they aren’t true, so let’s just say I’m due mid-Feb. Valentine’s Baby?! **EDIT: if I go by conception date (yes, I’m positive on it), my due date is 2/17 and I’m FIVE weeks right now!

I’m trying to anticipate questions. Yes I’m using a midwife, no I haven’t chosen her yet, yes I’m planning a homebirth VBAC. YES I’m very, very tired all the time. No I’m not nauseated (yet). Yes, I’m hungry all the time.

My baby boy,

You turned one on December 27th, 2010. ONE. A whole year old. Where did the year go? I think I’ve been avoiding writing this letter because it makes it more real. You’re a toddler! What happened to my baby?!

But Ry Ry, you’ll always be my baby boy! You continue to amaze me every single day. You’re always making me laugh and smile and a day doesn’t go by that I don’t tell you you’re too freaking cute! Just tonight I turned my back for a couple minutes and you managed to get my chocolate box from the 3rd shelf and by the time I saw you.… chocolates were all over the floor (and all over your face)–I couldn’t stop laughing.

You are 31 inches tall and weigh just over 19 pounds. It’s hard to believe you were ever 7 lb and 9 oz! You walk and run all over, you reach the drawers and door knobs, you talk and laugh… you’re the best thing in the whole world.

You can sign the word “milk,” which you do A LOT and I can see how happy it makes you to be able to communicate with us–we need to learn more signs! You can also say all of these words: mama, dada, hi, cat, cracker, milk, grandpa/grandma… and you wave bye bye (or even “cya” or “later”). You understand a lot more words that we say to you: sleepy time, dance, shower or bath, down, up, hungry, pick up…

The cutest thing ever? You give kisses! You can blow kisses (kind of)–you open your mouth wide and put your hand over your mouth… you haven’t quite caught on to the blow part, haha. If we tell you that we love you, you grab on for a hug or you give us a kiss–because you love us too I try that one about 932874 times a day.

You have new dancing moves! Instead of just bouncing up and down, you now sway side to side. I’m trying to teach you to throw in a spin or a fist pump, haha. You dance to commercials, us humming a tune, or even if we just say the word “dance!”

Some other cute skills: you can walk backwards, climb the 4 step ladder on your treehouse (and go down the slide), you like to sit on your big boy chair, you’ve colored with markers, you laugh when we laugh, you can turn on my iPhone and turn off the computer.

If you’re super tired, you now wave bye bye to daddy and then sign “milk” to mama–telling us you’re ready to go to bed! That’s too adorable. You’re such a good boy.

We signed you up for tumbling classes that start next weekend and hopefully in February we’ll be starting mommy and me swim classes too! You’re so active and you’re getting so big. I still look at you and get teary about it! The other day I was at babies-r-us getting you some clothes and I glanced at the teeny tiny baby clothes. My eyes started watering before I even processed the thought! Don’t get any bigger, okay?!

Randoms: you’re still in cloth diapers, but we use disposables at night and you’re still in size 3. You wear size 12–18 month clothes and size 4–5 shoes. Six teeth (4 on top, 2 on bottom) but it seems your bottom left molars are coming in very soon. Still no haircut, but it’s getting a little long over your ears Cutie!

Not that I want you to get any bigger or older! but I can’t wait for the summer with you. Me and my lil man are going to have so much fun

Ryan's 1st birthday party!

Ryan did so well at his party. After his meltdown at Christmas with all the people, I was worried he’d be the same for his birthday. There were about 30 people there and he was AWESOME. He was a show off. He loved the attention, he ate it all up. He didn’t get too into the cake, I wish he would have smashed it to pieces! It was like he didn’t want his hands dirty. He kept sticking one thumb in the cake so I took his other hand and shoved it in the cake–I made him cry, haha. But only for a second and then he was back inspecting the cake. Once I fed him a piece he was a bit more interested… in having me feed him more [not getting into it himself]!

Toys everywhere! Christmas and then his birthday.… toys toys and more toys!

In this picture above, Ryan was doing the “SOOO BIG!” thing, but for the first time I’ve ever seen, he lifted his legs in the air too! Hilarious! [Yes, he even has on monster socks.]

Decorating a Monster-Themed Birthday Party!

On Sunday (Jan. 2nd), we had over some friends and family for Ryan’s big birthday party… monster-themed for a monster lil boy! It was a lot of fun.… but a ton of work. I’m relieved it’s over, but it’s bittersweet… can’t believe my baby is ONE! I have *so many* pictures from the party, this post is just going to focus on the decorations. I’ll follow up with another that has pictures of Ryan and his cake and presents and all the guests

Monster Cupcakes! In red, blue, yellow and green and decorated with monster faces and toppers. I had them made at a local bakery.

Ryan’s smasher cake! It was a 6″ cake just for Ryan–also from the local bakery.

My little monster!

For food we had Monster Toes (pigs in a blanket), Monster Fingers (chicken fingers), Monster Eyes (meatballs), Monster Munch (trail mix), popcorn with monster hands in the bowl, carrots and dip with a carrot monster hand in the dip, chips and dip, punch (with a hand-shaped ice mold) and of course, the cupcakes!

Ryan’s own little corner was decorated and waiting for him for cake smashing time! A birthday crown (he refused to wear) and a safety sheet (plastic tablecloth) to protect our carpet, haha.

Birthday balloons and monster footprints (cut from green poster board) greeted guests by the front door.

Punch (hawaiian punch, 7-up and pineapple juice with orange sherbet) complete with a hand-shaped ice mold! Yellow and green cups were decorated with sticky wiggly eyes of different sizes and straws had cute monster tags on them.

I hung a banner of Ryan’s monthly chair pictures!

And finally… a cute Monster birthday banner that was hung above his highchair.

Ryan's 1st Birthday Part 1: sledding!

Steve had Ryan’s birthday (Monday, 12/27) off work so we decided to celebrate by taking him sledding!! We went to buy a sled and of course the store was all sold out… except for this inflatable one, which ended up working really well. It had a cord to pull him along and a back he could lean on.

Our back yard is a golf course so it was the perfect place to go! We ran around with him for awhile and then we got brave and led him down a “hill”–a sand trap, haha. Then we got even braver and let him go down alone! No, he never fell over… it was a sand trap, people! Not much of a hill. My baby is almost 1

Dear Ryan,

Ahhhh, slow down, buddy! Ok, I won’t freak out until your actual 1-year letter, but it’s coming soon! You’re 11 months old (well, now you’re 11.5 months old) and I look at you every day in amazement. At least once a day my eyes start watering, usually while you’re nursing and I sing you a song or tell you that I love you. Remember when your entire little body used to fit in my arms? And now your legs hang off my lap and sometimes I can barely hold you.

You’re walking! I think it’s safe to finally call it that now. You’ve been taking steps for probably a month now, but only a few at a time… then half way across the room… but you’d always drop and crawl if you really wanted to get somewhere. In the past few days, though, you’ve been walking everywhere–and almost running, even! You chased after the cat and moved faster than I’ve ever seen you walk before. Daddy calls you Frankenstein, the way you walk with your arms straight out in front of you, haha. It’s exciting, but also crazy to watch my lil man walking!

We took you outside for your first snow! Okay, your first snow was last year, but you were just a tiny little 7 pound thing and we kept you inside, nice and warm! This year we put on your snow suit and mommy couldn’t stop laughing… all bundled up, you look like an oompa loompa

You do the cutest thing if we ask you a question, like “Where’s grandma?” and she’s not there… you put both your hands together, palms up, like you’re shrugging your shoulders and saying “I don’t know!” Some words you can say: mama, dada, kitty cat, hi… and of course you understand many more.

Daddy likes to joke that you’re a more grown up eater than mommy. I’m a really picky eater… a trait I hope I don’t pass on to you (but I like to claim I have super taste buds ). So far, you’re doing really well! Daddy makes you eggs for breakfast with squash, zucchini, mushrooms, onion, garlic, spinach… and you love it! He bakes acorn squash and sweet potatoes, but you’re particular about your sweet potatoes–daddy has to make them “Ryan’s way,” which includes onion, garlic and cream cheese, haha.

We’re really excited for your first Christmas! We need a new “Baby’s 1st Christmas” ornament because we bought one last year and it says 2009… and you stubbornly decided to be 9 days late and miss Christmas by 2 days! But it’s better this way because now you can enjoy the holiday and play in the snow and open your presents We have our stockings hanging on the fireplace and yours is already packed full (mommys and daddys are empty, haha).

Mommy still co-sleeps with you, but you’re getting better at sleeping (knock on wood)! You go to bed around 7-8pm and *most* of the time sleep until around midnight, which is when I take you to bed with me. Sometimes you wake up around 10pm and I put you back to sleep (in your crib) and then you sleep till 3-4am and then come into bed with mommy. I will miss these co-sleeping nights one day!!! You’re my snuggle bug <3

Some stats: you still have just the 6 teeth, you weigh just over 19 pounds, you’re wearing size 12–18 month clothes, size 4–5 shoes and your hair is getting long! It’s now over your ears a little bit–where’d my bald baby go?! You’re still in size 3 diaper, but we only put you in those at night–you’re mainly in cloth diapers and still mainly breastfed (with 3 meals of solid foods a day).

Things we’re working on: blowing kisses, sitting still for diaper changes (HA!), being more gentle with the kitties and signing “milk!”

Mama fail! I was just uploading pictures from my camera and realized I never uploaded Ryan’s Halloween pictures!! Which means I never posted them! So, just a little bit late, here’s my adorable little lion. And his papa bear and mama tiger… lions and tigers and bears, oh my!

The first sickness and one tired mama

Just days before turning 11 months old, Ryan finally got sick–for the first time. He stayed over at Steve’s parents’ on Wednesday night and when I held Ryan on Thursday morning, I instantly commented on how warm he was. We took his temp and it was 99.7. He was doing alright until we sat down to eat (of course). He lasted about 3 minutes and didn’t want to eat anything… we took his temp again and it was near 102. I sent Steve to the store for some infant tylenol.

The fever stuck around until tonight.. that’s nearly 3 days. I’ve never seen Ry so miserable and so sleepy! The tylenol kept the fever down around 101 and we didn’t give it too often. I took him to the pediatrician this morning and he checked out just fine, so we waited it out. The fever finally broke tonight, whoo!!

But.… the constant neediness the last 3 days (and only mommy would do!) has worn me out. If you don’t have kids? This:

I needed alone time… ME time… today, for my general sanity, and how did I get it? I shut myself in the bathroom for one minute. Today, I got ONE minute of peace and I had to get it by sitting on the toilet and the entire minute my baby sat outside the door and cried. If he hadn’t been, I may have taken an extra minute.

A couple days ago I was feeling really BLAH and sad and all I wanted to do was curl up on the couch and watch a movie. Ya know, one of those days. And it kind of hit me–I can’t. I just don’t get to. At least, not until Ryan wants to watch a movie with me. So instead I push on.

Ryan has been attached to my hip (or breast, ya know) for the last 3 days and I haven’t been able to do a thing. We missed Thanksgiving with Steve’s family, I haven’t worked on my class–I was supposed to enter exam scores online and haven’t even picked them up. I need to work on creating the final–it’s only 2 weeks away!!!–and writing lecture. AND the house was a disaster. And Steve had to work this weekend. But when baby is sick and needs his mama, that’s what I need to be doing. So everything else must wait.

Wah wah wah, I know. Thanks for letting me whine. As tired as I am and as much as I now have to get done tomorrow (assuming Ryan is finally feeling better), I love Ryan and would do anything for him! And without my massive to-do list on my mind, I really enjoyed his neediness–him resting his head on my shoulder and sleeping on top of me all curled up in a ball… awwwwwww, so sweet!
