Homebirth supplies???

I just got a list from my midwife for supplies we need to buy for our upcoming homebirth. She does have a “birth kit” set up through a website so I can easily just order everything together for about $30.

~1 – 2 dozen large “chux” pads (basically like flat, adult diapers… puppy pads work just as well, yea???) ~1 box sterile gauze sponges (4x4’s) ~1 – 2 boxes of large overnight sanitary napkins or a box of adult diapers (AWESOME) ~1 peri-bottle (small

Pregnancy: week 33

*7 weeks left*

It’s 2012! It’s the year of the baby!!! I can no longer say, “ah, the baby isn’t coming till next year.” And yea, that’s a little bit scary!

Baby girl weighs just over 4 pounds (think: pineapple) and is 17 inches long from head to toe. She’s losing her wrinkly old-lady-looking skin and filling out with fat.

the decision to VBAC

Heard of “VBAC,” but don’t really know what it is? Interested in having a VBAC, but need more information to make your decision? There’s too much fear around VBACs (vaginal birth after cesarean) circulating out there and slight risks (serious, but slight) are blown out of proportion. Want a repeat c-section? That’s okay, too, I just want to be sure women are making an informed decision, not one based on scare tactics.

Interviewing a homebirth midwife

We interviewed (and loved) a midwife last night for our upcoming VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) homebirth. When we chose an OB for our last pregnancy, we didn’t really interview anyone – just took one based on a referral from a friend because she had openings available. Huge mistake.

I prepared a big list of questions for our midwife interview.. these were collected from ICAN, online forums, suggestions from twitter/facebook, and birth-y books (Birthing From Within, Thinking Woman’s Guide to
